"More tits in Lidl please!” my lovely friend Meredith greeted me with this new year message once. It is true, I have been known to wear the most ridiculous outfits to the supermarket, but in my defence the Lidl ‘debacle’ happened en route to a Halloween event. The fact that I subsequently got too inebriated before we arrived at said event and spent the evening waiting for a non-existent cab on a kerb, is not to be spoken of again! I have also had people say “Nice costume” to me when I am wearing regular clothes! And I am finding this is becoming more of a ‘thing’ the older I get. I am changing, evolving, growing. We should do that, shouldn’t we? I am altering because I am influenced by the city I live in, by the people I meet, the strangers I watch, the music I hear and the stories I’m told. How am I becoming more visible at a stage where many feel they become invisible? DOLLY So I ask myself, how am I becoming more visible at a stage where many feel they become invisible? Is it my metallic turban, my chunky gold ankle chain? Is it my ball gag necklace or my perfectly defaced Burberry trench (thank you Paul @urbantrencheslondon )? Granted, I’m sure they do attract a certain amount of attention, but I think it is also about energy and attitude. I make eye contact with passers-by, I start conversations with strangers on the tube, I compliment people if they do, say or are wearing something I love. I notice, I ask questions, I connect. Being of Irish descent I also know how to tell a story: I grew up around some of the best raconteurs in the. business. They were bold. Bold in a different way: free-spirited and unconventional. I am neither of these things but I am bold. I know what I like and I wear what makes me happy. It just so happens that often that makes other people happy. This has developed with age: I am now more confident in my unique style than ever. I am comfortable in my skin and I know that my stories and my ability to listen is enough. I am living my grandmother’s wildest dreams! So wear what makes you happy: do what makes your heart sing: make the simple things in life joyful. LIFESTYLE & RELATIONSHIPSComments are closed.
